The school year is offically underway. My first day yesterday was fine, though it wasn't really stellar. My classes are a little smaller than last year, which is nice. However, I think that I have a few more of the "troublemakers" than I did before. There is one student in particular that I had to pull out of class on the very first day and tell him that his talking and jokes are not appropriate. I was somewhat surprised that he would need something like that on the very first day. I don't know if I was more or less suprised to later learn that he had the same conversation with every other teacher he has here this year. I guess the good news is that, if he is a problem, it won't just be for me.
I do feel a little bad for complaining about students after the first day. I really do think that I will have a lot of smart, helpful and sweet students this year. A few of them even seemed excited for the school year to get started again.
Now I just have to figure out those lesson plans for next week...
